Muffle furnace tempering is suitable for various materials, mainly including ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, ceramics and glass, as well as some special materials. The specific instructions are as follows:

ferrous metal
Applicable materials: iron, steel, stainless steel, etc.
Purpose of tempering: to improve its mechanical properties and microstructure. For example, after quenching steel materials, a muffle furnace can heat them above the austenitizing temperature and then rapidly cool them, allowing the metal to achieve high hardness and strength. However, residual stress will be generated inside the material after quenching, leading to an increase in brittleness. By tempering in a muffle furnace, these stresses can be eliminated while adjusting the microstructure, improving toughness and plasticity.
Application example: In automobile manufacturing, tempering treatment of parts such as gears and shafts can improve their load-bearing capacity and service life.

non-ferrous metals
Applicable materials: aluminum alloy, copper, nickel, cobalt, etc.
Purpose of tempering: To alloy, purify, and refine at high temperatures to improve its performance and application range. For example, aluminum alloys can improve their casting and mechanical properties during tempering.
Application example: In the aerospace field, tempering treatment of aluminum alloy parts can improve their strength and corrosion resistance, ensuring the safety of aircraft.

Ceramics and Glass
Applicable materials: ceramic bodies, glass products, etc.
Tempering purpose (more accurately referred to as “sintering” or “annealing”):
Sintering: densification of ceramic body, improvement of mechanical and electrical properties. The muffle furnace provides a high-temperature environment, promoting the bonding between ceramic particles.
Annealing: Eliminating internal stress generated during the molding process of glass products, improving optical performance and stability.
Application example: In the electronics industry, sintering ceramic capacitors can improve their dielectric properties and reliability.

Other special materials
Semiconductor materials: The muffle furnace can be used for crystal growth and annealing processes of semiconductor materials. Under high temperature conditions, semiconductor materials grow crystals and improve their electrical properties through annealing.
Polymer materials: Although polymer materials are usually not tempered using a muffle furnace, in certain specific situations, such as testing the decomposition temperature, thermal weight loss, and other parameters of polymer materials such as plastics and rubber at high temperatures, a muffle furnace can be used as a thermal stability testing equipment.
